There are many real life couples in wrestling. Montez Ford and Bianca Belair, Karrion Kross and Scarlett, Charlotte and Andrade El Idolo, and Malakai Black and Zelina are just a few. Even Bronn Breaker and Cora Jade recently announced that they are dating.
However, the wrestling power couple is seth rollins and Becky Lynch. They ruled wrestling as the bosses of their respective decisions even before their relationship was announced. Their on-screen personas survived when their relationship went public in an odd couple on Raw. They are now married with a child and as strong as ever in the ring and in real life.
Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch become a couple
In 2019, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch were at the top of the WWE food chain. WrestleMania 35 saw them have the biggest moments of their career. Rollins would defeat Brock Lesnar to become the Universal Champion earlier in the night. The main event saw “The Man” Becky Lynch become part of the first group of women to main event WrestleMania, with Lynch edging out Charlotte and Ronda Rousey to become the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion. It was a great moment for them as fighters. Behind the scenes, the people behind the characters, Colby Lopez and Rebecca Quin, were falling in love.
In an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Lynch described how she and Rollins came together. “We’ve been friends for years and years, and immediately the first conversation I had with him… we hit it off. I think I ended up telling him the story of my life. And that was it, we were just friends, and there never really was anything. But then we were both single at the same time, and then we said, ‘Why not?’”
WWE milks Rollins and Lynch’s relationship for all it’s worth
As many celebrity couples do these days, the couple made their relationship official via social media. WWE decided to take advantage. If Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch were super popular on their own, then it might be to their advantage to put them on TV together and acknowledge their relationship. They were used together in multiple stories and mixed tag matches. Fans loved it at first. It was fun seeing Lynch and Rollins in the ring together. But as WWE is wont to do, they began to shove the relationship down the throats of fans (thankfully, it’s not as bad as AEW does with Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo). An odd angle saw Rollins and Lynch team up to face and beat Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans at Extreme Rules 2019. After that, the pair called off their on-screen tag team.
In an interview with Sports Media with Richard DeitschRollins discussed why the two didn’t work as an on-screen duo on Raw. “We tried to do our best, but I don’t think any of us felt very comfortable with that. Although we have incredible chemistry as people, as artists, our characters never really vibrated on screen.”
Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch get married and are parents
Behind the scenes, the two’s relationship continued, with an engagement announced in August 2019. On television, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch would be just fine without each other. Becky Lynch held the Raw Women’s Championship until after WrestleMania 36 in 2020 when her pregnancy forced her to relinquish the title. Rollins would lose his title to Brock Lesnar, before defeating Lesnar again at SummerSlam. While Lynch took a break from WWE, Rollins stayed on top, turning heel with her breakout run as The Messiah and The Visionary.
On December 4, 2020, their first child, a daughter named Roux, was born. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch would still get married on June 29, 2021. On Raw, you might see their relationship briefly here and there, but WWE has yet to get them back together. It is a temptation worth resisting. The two are perhaps the best in the business, but they don’t need each other on television. While it would be fun to see them together again, they are a couple who don’t need each other to become popular. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch’s wrestling personas are doing just fine on their own.
